Windows laptops have their methods or commands for capturing a screenshot, which can be a little difficult if you’re not familiar with them. Knowing how to take a screenshot will save you a lot of time explaining things.

How to Screenshot on Windows

Clicking the “Print Screen” key on the keyboard will save a copy of what you have on your computer screen. It’s usually labeled “PrtScn” and is found in the top row, near or among the Function keys.

On some keyboards, the Function key may be required to activate the Print Screen.

  • PrtScn should be clicked: The entire screen is copied to the clipboard. You can paste the screenshot into any image-displaying program, such as Paint or Microsoft Word.
  • Hold down Alt + PrtScn: The active window is copied to the clipboard, which you can then paste into another program
  • Press the Windows key + Shift + S together: The screen dims and the mouse pointer changes. You can select a portion of the screen to capture by dragging.
  • Press Windows + PrtScn at the same time: The entire screen is saved as an image file. It can be found in the “Pictures” folder, in the “Screenshots” subfolder.

  • From the Start menu on your Laptop, start the Snipping Tool.
  • In the “Mode” drop-down, select the type of screenshot shape you want – anything from full screen to rectangular to free-form.
  • The screenshot can then be created using the mouse. After that, the screenshot will appear in the Snipping Tool window.
  • If you want to include something like a tooltip, which only appears on certain pages.
  • Once you’ve taken your screenshot, you can annotate it with the drawing tools if you want.
